Recently, Communic8 reached a significant milestone in its information security strategy by renewing its SOC 2 Type 2 compliance. This compliance is widely recognized as the gold standard for information security.

What is SOC compliance?

Service Organization Controls (SOC) - more widely known as the SOC framework - was created by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

The SOC framework evaluates the internal controls, policies, and procedures of service organizations. It involves an independent third party to verify the security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy of the data and systems that a company manages for its clients.

SOC reports come in 3 forms:

SOC 1

SOC 1 audits focus on controls that impact customer's financial reporting

Valid types:
TYPE I
TYPE II
SOC 2

SOC 2 audits revolve around cloud and data center security controls. They are based on Trust Services Criteria (TSCs).

Valid types:
TYPE I
TYPE II
SOC 3

SOC 3 reports can be distributed freely or posted to the public on a company's website.

Valid types:
TYPE II

Service organization control (SOC) reports can be either a Type 1 or a Type 2 report

I

Type 1 reports evaluate an organization's controls at a single point in time

II

Type 2 reports examine how well an organization's controls perform over a period of time (typically 3-12 months).
